Overview

You will own the product vision, user experience and roadmap for paytech’s web applications
and payment interfaces.
This is a senior, hands-on product leadership role — not a coordination-only Product Owner
position and not a purely visual design role.

You will be responsible for understanding users, deciding what should be built, defining how the
product should work and ensuring that the delivered experience meets a consistently high
standard.

You must have previously owned and launched customer-facing payment products such as
payment cashiers, hosted payment pages, checkout experiences or payment widgets.
Experience with merchant portals, payment operations backoffices or payment orchestration
platforms is strongly preferred.

You will combine payments knowledge, product judgment, UX expertise and technical fluency.
You should be able to move comfortably between customer interviews, complex payment
workflows, interactive prototypes, product requirements, data analysis and detailed reviews of
the implemented product.

What you will own:

● The product vision and roadmap for the merchant portal, operational backoffice,
payment widgets, cashiers and future web applications;
● The complete user experience across payment processing, routing, reporting,
reconciliation, configuration, user management and operational monitoring;
● The strategy for introducing AI-assisted workflows, proactive intelligence and contextual
guidance throughout paytech’s products;
● Product discovery with PSPs, merchants, payment operations teams, support teams and
internal stakeholders;
● Information architecture, user journeys, workflows, wireframes and interactive
prototypes;
● Prioritisation of platform improvements, new functionality, look-and-feel and customer
requirements;
● A shared design system and reusable interaction patterns across paytech products;
● Global product compatibility across devices, browsers, geographies, languages and
accessibility needs;
● Product requirements and acceptance criteria for frontend applications and their
supporting backend functionality;
● Product analytics, user feedback and continuous improvement after launch;
● The quality of the final user experience — not only the completion of individual features.

Global-by-default product design

Our products serve users in different countries, operating environments and roles. Global
compatibility must be considered from the beginning rather than added after development.

You will ensure that our applications:
● Work consistently across desktop, tablet and mobile devices;
● Support different browsers, screen sizes, connection speeds and device capabilities;
● Can be localised into different languages, including languages with longer text and right-
to-left layouts;
● Correctly handle currencies, time zones, date formats, number formats and regional
conventions;
● Accommodate different payment methods and payment behaviours across markets;
● Are accessible to users with different physical and cognitive needs;
● Are understandable by both experienced payment professionals and users with limited
technical or payments knowledge;
● Remain consistent and intuitive across different white-label configurations and client
brands.

AI-native product experience

We want AI to become a meaningful part of the product experience — not a separate chatbot
added to the interface.

You will identify and deliver opportunities for AI to help users understand situations, detect
problems and take the correct actions. These may include:
● Contextual AI assistants embedded within payment and operational workflows;
● Proactive monitoring of payment performance, configuration and operational data;
● Intelligent identification of anomalies, unusual trends and potential problems;
● Actionable prompts when success rates fall, reconciliation issues appear or
configurations may be incorrect;
● AI-generated explanations of payment data, declines, routing results and operational
events;
● Natural-language exploration of reports, transactions and performance data;
● Guided configuration of routing rules, connectors, dashboards and other complex
functionality;
● Recommendations based on historical performance and user objectives;
● Automated summaries of important events and changes;
● AI-assisted onboarding and in-product help adapted to the user’s role and experience.

You will work with engineering, data and security specialists to ensure that AI-generated
information is accurate, permission-aware, explainable and auditable.
AI recommendations must provide clear reasoning, respect user permissions and require
appropriate human confirmation before executing sensitive actions.

What you will do:

● Research how PSPs, merchants and payment operations teams work today;
● Identify recurring problems, inefficient processes and opportunities for automation;
● Translate complex payment concepts into interfaces that work across countries,
languages, devices and different levels of user expertise;
● Design experiences for payment cashiers, hosted payment pages and widgets that are
fast, intuitive and conversion-focused;
● Define personas, user journeys, navigation structures and permissions-based
experiences;
● Create or directly supervise wireframes, prototypes and detailed UX specifications;
● Work with the CTO and company leadership to establish product priorities and
measurable outcomes;
● Partner closely with the Head of Engineering, frontend developers, backend developers,
QA and business analysts throughout delivery;
● Balance reusable platform capabilities against client-specific and white-label
requirements;
● Establish standards for responsive design, accessibility, localisation and customisation;
● Ensure that new applications properly support multi-tenancy, roles and permissions,
auditability, security and large volumes of operational data;
● Review implemented functionality in detail and ensure that it matches the intended user
experience;
● Introduce product analytics, usability testing and feedback mechanisms;
● Measure how users interact with the product and use evidence to improve it
continuously;
● Communicate product decisions and roadmap priorities across engineering, PMO,
support, sales and account management.

Required experience:

● Significant experience owning complex digital payment products as a Product Manager,
Senior Product Manager, Product Lead or equivalent;
● Direct experience taking an online payment experience from discovery through design,
development and production launch;
● Previous ownership of payment cashiers, hosted payment pages, checkout flows,
payment widgets or similar transaction interfaces;
● Strong understanding of payment journeys, transaction statuses, declines, payment
methods and merchant requirements;
● A strong portfolio demonstrating products you helped define and launch — not only
features or projects you coordinated;
● Experience designing or significantly redesigning complex B2B SaaS applications,
operational backoffices, merchant portals or data-heavy dashboards;
● Excellent UX judgment and a strong interest in modern, simple and polished interfaces;
● Hands-on ability to create and evaluate user journeys, wireframes and interactive
prototypes;
● Strong working knowledge of Figma or equivalent product design tools;
● Experience conducting user interviews, identifying underlying problems and validating
proposed solutions;
● Experience creating product strategies and roadmaps based on user value, business
impact, evidence and engineering effort;
● Ability to write clear product requirements and acceptance criteria;
● Technical fluency in APIs, frontend architecture, browser behaviour, application
performance and software delivery;
● Confidence working directly with engineers and making informed technical trade-offs;
● Experience defining and measuring product outcomes through analytics and user
behaviour;
● Professional English communication skills.

AI product experience

You should have practical experience delivering AI-assisted product functionality or a strong
demonstrable understanding of how AI can be integrated into real user workflows.
You must be able to distinguish between a genuinely valuable AI capability and an AI feature
added for marketing purposes.

You should understand:
● Contextual and proactive AI experiences;
● Human-in-the-loop workflows;
● The importance of explainability and user trust;
● Permission-aware access to company and transaction data;
● The risks of inaccurate or misleading AI-generated information;
● How to measure whether an AI feature improves user outcomes.

Strong advantages:

● Previous experience as a frontend engineer, UX engineer or design engineer;
● Ability to create working prototypes;
● Experience with payment orchestration, acquiring, PSP platforms or merchant payment
infrastructure;
● Experience building both payment interfaces and the operational applications behind
them;
● Experience with multi-tenant and white-label SaaS platforms;
● Experience designing role-based backoffice systems and complex operational
workflows;
● Knowledge of design systems, accessibility and responsive application design;
● Experience improving checkout or payment-widget conversion;
● Experience with product analytics, usability testing and session-recording tools;
● Experience introducing AI assistants, anomaly detection, recommendation systems or
natural-language analytics into B2B products.

Production coding is not a core responsibility of this position. However, the ability to prototype,
inspect frontend implementation and communicate with engineers at a detailed technical level
will be highly valued.

How you will work:

You will report to the CTO and work closely with the Head of Engineering and a cross-functional
product development team.

You will have meaningful authority over product direction, priorities and user experience.

Engineering leadership will retain responsibility for technical architecture, implementation and
engineering quality.

This will initially be a senior, hands-on product leadership role, with the opportunity to build and
lead a broader product experience function as paytech grows.

We are looking for someone who has already built serious payment products and now wants to
create an intelligent, globally scalable payment experience — not simply manage a backlog.

People who understand the payments ecosystem are rare.
